Join the Sounds of Stow Chorus and Orchestra in rehearsals to perform Duruflé's "Requiem" with full orchestra on February 28, 2010. Modeled on the beloved "Requiem" by his mentor, Gabriel Fauré, Duruflé's "Requiem" presents a comforting and serene response to death. Completed in 1947, the piece has become one of the most frequently performed works of the century. Based on Gregorian chant, the beauty of the musical lines is unparalleled. Duruflé provided three accompaniments for the work: organ, small ensemble, and full orchestra (including harp, tuba and various percussion effects). We will have the rare opportunity to experience the piece as originally conceived, with full orchestral accompaniment. In Duruflé's own words, the piece "represents the idea of peace, of faith and hope." Based on Gregorian chant, the beauty of the musical lines is unparalleled.
